International Snipe Class
UK National Championships 2009

This season has got off to a great start with the number of competitors at Shoreham promising good turn outs at this years events. Our next UK event is at Blue Circle on the 4th and 5th of July and the Le Havre Open (our favourite French event) is being held on the 20th and 21st June. You can see our full event calendar on the Snipe UK website.

This year the UK National Championships will be held on the 22nd to the 24th of August at Paignton Sailing Club in conjunction with the Ocean BMW Torbay Race Week. If ever there was an event that I would urge you to attend it would be this one: The event is heavily sponsored enabling the entry fee to be reduced to an all time low of £30, the professionally run race week will also host nationals for other classes along with regional championships and big boat racing upto the IRC1 classes (should be a true spectacle), there will be a professional photographer on the water to capture you in action, and there will be evening entertainment laid on every night at one of the several affiliated clubs of Torbay Race week.

On top of all this Paignton is on the South Devon Coast - a beautiful part of the country hosting wide sweeping sandy beaches, historic and picturesque villages and hopefully weather to encourage a full fat ice cream or two - perfect for non-sailors as well...!

Hopefully that has moistened your appetite a little, so what else do you need to know?

  • Entry will be held at £30 until the 23rd July when it will increase to £45. You can enter the event online at www.torbayweek.co.uk.
  • Accommodation lists can be found on the official website.
  • You don't need to qualify to enter our National Championships, but your boat will need to comply with the Scira rules.

This friendly event typifies the Snipe motto of Serious Sailing Serious Fun and we would love to see you all there..
